As Olympic fever cools down, some eagle eyed viewers might have noticed the Block Axess heavy vehicle mitigation system deployed around the Olympic village to protect athletes and spectators alike. Event organizers are more wary than ever of “hazardous vehicle attacks” putting the lives of pedestrians at risk.
This has caused cities, municipalities and private enterprise to seek vehicle mitigation devices. Hostile vehicle mitigation is an essential strategy in today’s world to counteract the increasing threat of vehicle attacks and negligent driving. Hostile vehicles, weaponized for targeting individuals, buildings, or crowded places, pose a significant risk. However, the implementation of Block Axess can fortify public spaces and vital infrastructure against such threats.
Crowd and Traffic Management for Los Angeles 2028
As the event draws to a close and the USA leads the medal tally this year, some attention now turns to the next Olympics, particularly for the organizers. The event will be hosted in our own backyard, what lessons can be learned and applied from Paris?
Black Axess’s hostile vehicle mitigation system is a great demonstration of the security of this type of product in Paris and can very easily be applied in LA. Block Axess also provides an ADA ramp for accessibility throughout the Olympic and Paralympic games.
In addition, we don’t have to look too far for effective use of channelizing devices for crowd and traffic management. Last years’ Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix is a perfect example of this as shown in the image below utilizing the TrafFix Water-Walls and Water Cable Barriers.
The TrafFix Water Wall & Water Cable Barrier are durable systems that can be used in many situations; from securing a job site, to work-zone safety on roads and highways.
For pedestrian traffic needs, the TrafFix ADA Wall is used to create hand guided safe passages through mixed-use zones that require ADA compliance. The ADA Wall is made of UV stabilized, high density polyethylene and can be quickly and easily linked together in 6 foot sections to allow flexibility in creating a safe pedestrian pathway. ADA Walls can customized with images and text in a variety of reflective and non-reflective materials.
While we celebrate the continued success of Team USA at the Olympics, we should also begin our planning for hosting the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 and what that might mean for traffic management and protecting athletes and spectators.
